About Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®)
Through seven simple exercises, TRE turns on a self-controlled muscular shaking that is the body’s natural rebalancing process. These tremors spread from the legs, up the spine, releasing tension throughout the body. After you’ve learned this technique, you can practice it on your own, with immediate results being the norm.
TRE integrates well with other traditional mental health and/or physical treatment modalities and supports health and healing for those with more severe emotional and/or physical dysfunction or disease.
Used by large military populations, communities exposed to natural and war-related disasters, emergency responders, mental health professionals, teachers, children, prisoners, individuals with PTSD, athletes, and many others, TRE has been taught in more than 100 countries over the last 20 years. Currently, 35 countries maintain active training and certification programs, and TRE training materials have been translated into seven languages. TRE easily crosses cultural and language barriers because the tremor response is a natural and universal reaction of the human body.
Release and Disclosure
Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) are a member of a new class of treatment techniques and protocols referred to as Body-Based Therapy. While still considered experimental, these techniques are being used by therapists, nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, and lay people worldwide. There are theories about how they work, why they work, and why they sometimes don’t work, but there is no accepted scientific explanation.
To date, TRE has yielded exceptional results in the treatment of psychological and physical problems. No one teaching or practicing TRE can know with certainty whether it will help a specific individual or address a specific problem.
TRE is not meant to replace appropriate medical treatment or mental health counseling.
Cautions for Practicing TRE
As with any exercise program, please consult your physician before starting a TRE practice. If your physician has approved basic physical exercise, you can safely do TRE.
I, acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in private or group TRE training of my own volition. I am aware that, by practicing TRE, I assume and accept the risk of any adverse outcome that might result. I understand that I can stop my participation at any time I wish, and that I am in control of the intensity at which I perform TRE. I accept full responsibility for any side effects or changes in my life that performing TRE may cause.
I am aware that Petra Martin and Leckey Harrison are not licensed physicians and therefore do not provide medical advice. I recognize that they do not recommend that I stop using prescribed medicine, treatments, or mental health counseling without consulting my doctor or counselor.
I agree to take full responsibility for my own physical and emotional health and hold Petra Martin, Leckey Harrison, and Raise Your Resilience, LLC, harmless from any legal, financial, and medical liability arising from my TRE training.
I acknowledge that I am not a certified TRE provider and am therefore not trained to teach others how to do TRE. If I teach TRE, I accept full liability for any claim, suit, or proceedings brought against me by anyone I teach, thereby releasing Petra Martin, Leckey Harrison, and Raise Your Resilience, LLC, from any legal, financial, and medical liability that may be incurred.
